Sometimes families ask to “split” a household because parents or guardians are not comfortable sharing access to the same account. These requests can be sensitive, and it’s important to set expectations early so families understand what Sprocket Sports can and cannot support.

Household changes can impact visibility into player information, communications, and financial history. If you are unsure how to proceed, reach out to your Client Success team before making changes.
Best practice: avoid making account changes without clear permission from the account holders involved.
What a split household request usually means
A split household request typically comes up when parents or guardians prefer not to share access to the same household. The goal is usually to prevent one adult from seeing the other adult’s information while still allowing both to stay informed about the player.
Key limitation: a player can only exist once
In Sprocket Sports, a player can only exist one time in the system and can only be connected to one household. Because of that, a player cannot be duplicated across multiple households to create two separate “versions” of the same athlete.
This means there are situations where a true household split is not possible without creating unintended issues, like broken history, missing records, or duplicated data.
Saved payment methods are not shared between parent/guardian accounts
Even in complex household situations, it is helpful to know that saved payment methods are never shared between Parent/Guardian accounts. One parent or guardian cannot access another parent’s saved ACH or credit card information.
Recommended options to offer families
Option 1: Keep one household, adjust who has access
If the concern is about what a parent or guardian can see or do, the first step is to review access levels and confirm the right people have the right level of access.

Option 2: Shared-parent workaround when households cannot be split cleanly
In some family structures, players may be connected through one shared parent, while the other parents or guardians prefer not to be on the same account together.
In those cases, one workaround is:
Have the shared parent maintain two separate Sprocket Sports accounts, each using a different email address, so each “side” of the family can be managed separately.
Important note: This is a workaround and may not be appropriate for every situation. It should be handled carefully to avoid confusion with login, communications, and household management.
Option 3: Involve Client Success for guidance
If a family is requesting a split household due to a sensitive situation or privacy concern, reach out to your Client Success team. They can help you assess the safest approach based on how the household is currently structured and what outcomes the family is asking for.
Communication guidance for delicate situations
When discussing household changes with families:
Keep the language neutral and focused on platform behavior.
Avoid taking sides or requesting personal details beyond what is required to support the request.
Confirm what the family is asking for in simple terms, such as “Who should be able to view the player account?” and “Who should receive club communications?”
If you run into issues
If you are unsure whether a household can be adjusted safely, or a family is requesting changes due to conflict, reach out to your Client Success team before making updates. They can help confirm what is possible within the system’s household rules and recommend the best next steps for your club.
