Managing Chat Notifications

Learn how to manage chat notifications in the mobile app, including global push settings, muting individual threads, and director-specific team notification preferences.

Updated over a week ago

Chat notifications help families and staff stay on top of team updates, but not everyone wants the same level of alerts. In the mobile app, you can manage chat notifications in a few different ways, depending on whether you want to turn off all chat alerts, mute a specific thread, or limit which teams a director receives notifications for.

What you’ll find in this article

  • How to turn chat notifications on or off for your whole account

  • How to mute a specific Team Chat or Direct Message thread

  • How directors can manage notifications by team

Before you start

  • Notification options can vary slightly by role.

  • Your phone’s device settings can block notifications even if your in-app settings are turned on.

Step-by-step instructions

Turn off chat notifications for your whole account

If you want to stop receiving chat notifications across the app, update your push notification settings.

  1. Tap More in the bottom navigation.

  2. Under Notification Preferences, tap Push Notifications.

  3. In the Chats section, adjust the toggles based on what you want to receive:

    • Direct Messages

    • Team Chats

You can also adjust:

  • Club Announcements

Tip: If you turn off Team Chats or Direct Messages here, you will stop receiving push notifications for those message types across all teams and threads.

Mute an individual chat thread

Muting is best when you still want chat notifications overall, but you want to quiet one specific thread.

  1. Tap Messages in the bottom navigation.

  2. Open the Team Chat or Direct Message thread you want to mute.

  3. Tap the bell icon in the top-right corner.

  4. Choose how long you want to mute the chat.

Director notifications by team (optional)

Directors can also control which team notifications they receive from their assigned programs.

  1. From the Admin view in the mobile app, go to Club Teams.

  2. Tap into the program you want to manage.

  3. Tap Notification Preferences.

  4. Select which teams you want to receive notifications for.

Tips and best practices

  • Use global push notification settings when you want fewer alerts overall.

  • Use mute on a thread when a specific conversation is too active, but you still want other chats to notify you.

  • Directors should use team notification preferences to focus on only the teams they actively support.

Directors can use Notification Preferences under Club Teams in the Admin view to select which teams they receive notifications for.
