Chat Functionality

Learn how to manage chat threads in the mobile app, including adding or removing users, pinning and quoting messages, leaving threads, and moderating Team Chats.

Updated over a week ago

Chats in the mobile app are designed to feel familiar, while still giving clubs the controls they need for staff and team communication. Depending on the type of chat thread, staff may be able to manage who is included in a conversation, and all users can use tools like pinning, quoting, and message actions to keep conversations clear.

What you’ll find in this article

  • Adding and removing users from a chat thread (staff and direct chats)

  • Editing, deleting, and copying messages you sent

  • Leaving a chat thread

Pin a message

Pinning helps keep important information visible in a busy thread.

What to expect:

  • The latest pinned message appears at the top of the thread.

  • Pinned messages can be tapped to expand for the full view.

  • You can pin multiple messages in the same thread.

  • Pinned messages show who pinned them and when.

  • Pins persist across sessions and devices until they are removed.

Steps:

  1. Tap on a message to open message actions.

  2. Tap Pin Message.

To unpin, tap the pinned message and select the unpin option.

Reply with quoted messages

Quoted replies make it easier to follow a conversation, especially in active team chats.

  1. Tap on a message to open message actions.

  2. Tap Reply.

  3. The quoted message (sender and snippet) will appear above your message box.

  4. Type your response and send.

Your reply will post with a quoted block above your response. Emoji reactions are supported across chat threads as well.

Chat moderation tools (Club Admins and Directors)

Club Admins and Directors can moderate Team Chat channels by removing inappropriate or incorrect messages posted by members. This moderation permission applies to Team Channels only.

Important limitations:

  • Moderation does not apply to Direct Messages unless the admin or director is included in that direct message thread.

  • Deleting a message in a Team Channel replaces it with “Message removed by user” in the thread.

Delete a member message in a Team Channel (Directors, mobile app)

  1. Open the team and go to the Team Chat channel.

  2. Tap the message you want to remove.

  3. Tap Delete.

Delete a member message in a Team Channel (Club Admins, web)

Club Admins have this permission by default, but access Team Chats from a web browser.

  1. Go to Teams.

  2. Select Manage Teams.

  3. Open the team and access the team chat.

  4. Select the message you want to remove and choose Delete.

Tips and best practices

  • Use pinned messages for items people will ask about repeatedly, like field addresses, arrival times, or tournament schedules.

  • Use quoted replies when responding to a specific question so the context is clear.

  • Only add users to a thread if you are comfortable with them seeing the full message history.

  • If you need to remove someone from a conversation, remember they will lose access to the thread and its history immediately.

  • For moderation, remove messages that violate club expectations, then follow up with staff guidance if needed.
