Managing Player Groups

Learn how to move players between player pools, assign or update tiers, and edit jersey numbers and positions during tryouts on web and mobile.

Updated over a week ago

Player grouping keeps evaluations organized and helps staff find the right players quickly. If a player is in the wrong pool, needs a tier update, or has incorrect details like jersey number or position, you can make manual adjustments from the Tryouts module.

What you’ll find in this article

  • How to move a player to a different player pool

  • How to assign or change a player’s tier (including bulk tier assignment)

  • How to update a player’s jersey number and primary position

  • How to make these updates on web and in the mobile app

  • What to check if you see unassigned players

Before you begin

  • Player Pools and Tiers are managed per tryout registration.

  • A player can be evaluated in more than one player pool if needed.

  • A player can only be in one tier at a time. Updating a tier overrides the previous tier for all evaluators.

  • If you see a large number of players under Unassigned Players, you may need to adjust your player pool setup in Tryout Settings.

Manage player groups on web

Step 1: Open the tryout registration

  1. In the left navigation, select Tryouts.

  2. Open the correct tryout registration.

  3. Click View Player Pools.

Step 2: Filter to the players you want to manage

Use the filters at the top of the page to narrow the list, then click Search:

  • Player Pools to focus on one pool at a time

  • Tryout Dates to focus on a specific session or day based on attendance

  • Test Players to include or exclude test records

  • Selected Fields to control which columns show in the table

Tip: If you are looking for players who are not placed into a pool, expand Unassigned Players near the top of the page.

Change a player’s player pool on web

  1. Locate the player in the list.

  2. Select the ellipsis at the far right of the player’s row.

  3. Select Assign to player pool(s).

  4. In the dropdown, select the pool or pools the player should be evaluated in.

  5. Save.

Note: You can select multiple pools if a player needs to be evaluated within more than one group.

Assign or change a player’s tier on web

You can assign tiers one player at a time or in bulk.

Option A: Assign a tier for one player

  1. Locate the player in the list.

  2. Select the ellipsis at the far right of the player’s row.

  3. Select Assign to tier.

Jersey number formatting tips

If you run into issues

Players showing under Unassigned Players

If you see unassigned players, it usually means the player does not match any current player pool criteria.

  • If only a few players are unassigned, you can manually assign them to a pool.

  • If many players are unassigned, review your Player Pool age and gender criteria in Tryout Settings to make sure the ranges and filters match your tryout registrations.

You cannot find a player

  • Confirm you are in the correct tryout registration.

  • On web, use the Player Pools filter and Tryout Dates filter, then click Search.

  • If the player still is not listed, refer to Add a Player to a Tryout.
