Watch the Mobile Tryouts Walkthrough

What this video covers

This walkthrough demonstrates how staff can run tryouts using the Sprocket mobile app, including:

  • Accessing the tryouts module

  • Viewing player pools and tiers

  • Searching for players by name or jersey number

  • Viewing player information and previous team status

  • Assigning player ratings and notes

  • Completing evaluation forms

  • Filtering players by attendance or rating

  • Using evaluation criteria during tryouts

Using the Mobile App During Tryouts

Once permissions are assigned, staff members will see the Tryouts program at the bottom of the mobile app home screen.

Staff may have permissions such as:

  • Tryout pools

  • Take attendance

  • Add player to tryouts

  • Player evaluations

They will also only see the player pools they are assigned to evaluate.

Viewing Player Pools

When staff open a player pool:

  • Players appear grouped by tiers

  • Players without a tier appear at the top

  • Each tier shows the number of players assigned

Each player card displays:

  • Player name

  • Gender

  • Birth year

  • Position

  • Tryout jersey number

  • Age group

  • Invitation status (if invited to a team)

Staff can tap a player to see additional information such as:

  • School

  • T-shirt size

  • Registration responses

  • Emergency contacts

Searching for Players

Staff can quickly locate players by:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Jersey number

This is helpful when evaluators do not know every player's name.

Filters can also sort players by:

  • Name

  • Jersey number

  • Position

  • Rating

  • Attendance status

This allows coaches to focus only on players currently participating in a tryout session.

Viewing Player Photos

Tapping a player's name will show a larger player image, which helps staff confirm player identity during evaluations.

Assigning Player Ratings

Within each tier, staff can rank and rate players.

To rate a player:

  1. Move the rating slider

  2. The rating bar will turn blue when a rating is applied

  3. A gray bar indicates that no rating has been recorded

Staff can also add notes to accompany a rating.

Completing Player Evaluations

Staff can complete evaluations from the Evaluate tab.

Evaluations can be completed in two ways:

Evaluate by player

Open a player's profile and complete all evaluation criteria.

Evaluate by criteria

Select a specific evaluation metric and rate all players under that category.

This is useful when running evaluation stations during tryouts.

Examples include:

  • Passing

  • Ball handling

  • Coachability

  • Speed

  • Technical skills

A completion counter next to each criteria shows how many players have been evaluated.

After Evaluations

Once staff complete ratings and evaluations, club administrators can review the collected data in the web platform to:

  • Compare player evaluations

  • Review ratings across coaches

  • Assign players to teams

  • Send team invitations

WEBVTT

1

00:00:00.785 --> 00:00:03.845

Now that your dates, pools, and tiers have been configured

2

00:00:03.865 --> 00:00:05.925

and your staff have been given the correct permissions

3

00:00:05.925 --> 00:00:07.565

and pool assignments, we can review

4

00:00:07.585 --> 00:00:10.085

how staff can utilize the app Day of Tryouts.

5

00:00:11.365 --> 00:00:13.875

We'll take a look at how the staff members can best utilize

6

00:00:13.895 --> 00:00:16.275

the groups we've already created to rank rate

7

00:00:16.295 --> 00:00:17.355

and evaluate the players.

8

00:00:18.405 --> 00:00:21.875

We'll also touch on some newer enhancements within the

9

00:00:21.875 --> 00:00:23.915

mobile app to help make player searches

10

00:00:24.335 --> 00:00:25.515

and visibility easier.

11

00:00:27.145 --> 00:00:28.515

Once permissions have been assigned,

12

00:00:28.575 --> 00:00:30.635

the staff member will see the tryouts program at

13

00:00:30.635 --> 00:00:31.715

the bottom of their homepage.

14

00:00:32.505 --> 00:00:34.875

This staff member has been given the tryouts,

15

00:00:34.875 --> 00:00:37.675

tryout pools take attendance, add player to tryouts

16

00:00:37.675 --> 00:00:39.315

and evaluations permissions.

17

00:00:39.925 --> 00:00:43.235

We've also been assigned to the U 14 through U 16 pools.

18

00:00:44.165 --> 00:00:46.595

We'll click into the U 15 boys pool to start.

19

00:00:47.635 --> 00:00:50.485

Once in this pool you'll see players broken out into their

20

00:00:50.575 --> 00:00:52.165

tiers that we previously assigned

21

00:00:52.555 --> 00:00:53.925

with those not assigned to a tier.

22

00:00:53.925 --> 00:00:57.845

At the top of the page you'll note the total pool account at

23

00:00:57.845 --> 00:01:00.405

the top of the page and then the total tier count.

24

00:01:00.425 --> 00:01:01.565

At the top of each of these,

25

00:01:02.665 --> 00:01:05.285

you'll also get a quick glance at player information,

26

00:01:05.375 --> 00:01:09.285

which includes name, gender, birth, year, position, tryout,

27

00:01:09.285 --> 00:01:10.645

jersey number, and age group.

28

00:01:11.345 --> 00:01:14.085

If a player has been invited to a team as well

29

00:01:14.085 --> 00:01:17.245

as if they have accepted or declined their spot, the team

30

00:01:17.305 --> 00:01:19.565

and status will show below this information.

31

00:01:21.795 --> 00:01:23.435

Additionally, I can click on a player's name

32

00:01:23.575 --> 00:01:27.595

to view additional club data such as school T-shirt size

33

00:01:27.815 --> 00:01:31.075

or questions asked within the trout registration as well

34

00:01:31.075 --> 00:01:32.235

as emergency contacts.

35

00:01:33.295 --> 00:01:36.795

If I have rating visibility turned on, which is often seen

36

00:01:36.825 --> 00:01:38.675

with program directors that want

37

00:01:38.675 --> 00:01:42.315

to view ratings across staff, I can also toggle to ratings

38

00:01:42.315 --> 00:01:43.755

to view the aggregate ratings

39

00:01:43.775 --> 00:01:46.595

and view additional player parent contact information.

40

00:01:47.545 --> 00:01:50.075

This information will also be visible within the player

41

00:01:50.075 --> 00:01:52.235

rating section, which we'll get to in a second.

42

00:01:53.415 --> 00:01:55.915

Moving back out. To view the pool more holistically,

43

00:01:56.515 --> 00:01:59.115

I can search for players using the search option,

44

00:01:59.325 --> 00:02:02.075

which will allow you to enter a portion of their first

45

00:02:02.075 --> 00:02:04.355

or last name instead of needing their full spelling.

46

00:02:05.415 --> 00:02:07.475

We also know that a tryout staff may not

47

00:02:07.475 --> 00:02:08.515

know every player's name.

48

00:02:09.375 --> 00:02:11.995

You can use the search to search by Jersey numbers as well.

49

00:02:13.395 --> 00:02:17.245

Opening up the filters will allow to sort by ascending

50

00:02:17.245 --> 00:02:19.765

and descending name, jersey number, position

51

00:02:19.865 --> 00:02:22.285

and rating, as well as being able to

52

00:02:22.905 --> 00:02:25.725

filter based on attendance of tryout days so

53

00:02:25.725 --> 00:02:27.725

that you can focus only on players in front of you.

54

00:02:29.775 --> 00:02:32.255

Clicking on the player's name will also bring up a larger

55

00:02:32.515 --> 00:02:34.415

player image to help confirm identity

56

00:02:35.235 --> 00:02:36.695

if you're unsure of a player's name.

57

00:02:37.565 --> 00:02:38.735

This sorting feature

58

00:02:38.795 --> 00:02:42.255

and function will also carry through other areas such

59

00:02:42.255 --> 00:02:46.055

as the evaluate tab to allow for consistency no matter

60

00:02:46.055 --> 00:02:49.675

where you are on the pool homepage, I can scroll down

61

00:02:49.695 --> 00:02:53.515

to view all tiers and click the carrot to collapse the tier.

62

00:02:53.575 --> 00:02:55.075

If I wanna focus just on one,

63

00:02:56.395 --> 00:02:58.835

I can bulk assigned tiers by clicking the

64

00:02:59.045 --> 00:03:00.845

Assigned tier option at the bottom of the page,

65

00:03:01.465 --> 00:03:03.565

or I can click on an individual's profile

66

00:03:03.985 --> 00:03:06.245

by clicking on their name and editing their pool

67

00:03:06.265 --> 00:03:07.245

or tier within their

68

00:03:07.245 --> 00:03:11.465

profile from within a tier.

69

00:03:11.745 --> 00:03:14.625

I can rate and rank players only within that tier.

70

00:03:16.245 --> 00:03:17.745

If I need to add notes to a player,

71

00:03:17.945 --> 00:03:20.385

I can click into the rating section to add a note

72

00:03:20.445 --> 00:03:22.225

to accompany the rating that I've given.

73

00:03:23.665 --> 00:03:25.805

Please note that if the rating bar remains gray,

74

00:03:25.915 --> 00:03:28.205

this indicates that no rating has been given.

75

00:03:28.985 --> 00:03:32.165

As soon as I have sled this bar, you'll see

76

00:03:32.165 --> 00:03:36.105

that the bar will turn blue, which allows me to better view

77

00:03:36.285 --> 00:03:38.825

who I have given a rating to two.

78

00:03:40.975 --> 00:03:43.515

Now moving over to that evaluate button at the top

79

00:03:43.515 --> 00:03:46.435

of the pool homepage, I'll see where I can view

80

00:03:46.435 --> 00:03:49.155

and make evaluations based on the player evaluations

81

00:03:49.155 --> 00:03:50.355

that were previously set up.

82

00:03:51.095 --> 00:03:52.465

Here. I can click into a player

83

00:03:52.925 --> 00:03:56.385

and complete all of their evaluations or,

84

00:03:57.545 --> 00:03:59.885

and we often know that evaluations

85

00:04:00.315 --> 00:04:03.285

that are more metrics based can be done at different

86

00:04:03.285 --> 00:04:04.645

stations throughout tryouts.

87

00:04:04.905 --> 00:04:09.245

So you can filter over to the criteria tab to be able

88

00:04:09.245 --> 00:04:11.005

to evaluate based on criteria.

89

00:04:12.445 --> 00:04:14.785

The number counts that are listed next to the criteria

90

00:04:14.965 --> 00:04:17.785

or players will allow a staff member to ensure

91

00:04:17.785 --> 00:04:19.425

that they've recorded scores for everybody.

92

00:04:21.185 --> 00:04:23.845

And once your staff have completed these evals ratings

93

00:04:23.845 --> 00:04:26.405

and rankings, or started to reassign players

94

00:04:26.465 --> 00:04:30.055

to tier based on potential teams, you'll be able to start

95

00:04:30.055 --> 00:04:32.055

to use all this information over on the web

96

00:04:32.275 --> 00:04:33.415

to inform your team invites.
