This article covers common team setup questions for admins, including how to add teams to a program and how to choose the right Team/Group Type.

Adding Teams to a Program

To roster players onto teams for programs using the Traditional Team option, teams must be added at the Program level first.

Add teams to a program

  1. Navigate to Programs in the left navigation menu and select the program you want to update.

  2. Toggle to the Teams/Groups step.

If the teams already exist in Sprocket

  1. Click + Add Teams to view all teams.

  2. Select the checkbox next to each team name you want to add.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Confirm the team(s) now show on the page, then click Save at the bottom.

If you need to create new teams

  1. Click + Add New Team.

  2. Enter the new team name in both of the following text boxes:

  • Team Name

  • Registration Label Override

  1. Click Save.

  2. Click + Add Teams, locate the newly created team, select it, and click Add.

  3. Confirm the new team shows on the page, then click Save.

If the program is Invitational

For Invitational programs, teams MUST be tied to a registration so the system knows which registration (and price) to show a family when they accept an invite.

  1. In the program, toggle to Registrations at the top.

  2. Click into the registration that matches the team’s price point.

  3. Toggle to the Teams step.

  4. Click + Add Team, locate and select the team, then click Save.

Note: Rostering players onto teams and sending invitations is covered in the Teams & Tryouts section.

Team Types and When to Use Them

For Supplemental, Tournament, and Other program types, you can choose between three Team/Group Types. This choice controls what team-related functionality is available.

Traditional Team

Use this when there is a defined structure for the program.

  • Players register, then are either placed on a team or invited to join.

  • Best fit for programs where teams are central to the experience.

No traditional teams or groups needed

Use this when players do not need to be grouped.

  • No team or grouping structure is created.

No traditional teams, but players should be grouped together by registration

Use this for camps and other shorter-duration programs where formal teams are not needed.

  • Teams are not manually created.

  • Players are grouped by the registration they complete, which can support calendar, messaging, and related tools.

Important: The Team/Group Type cannot be changed once a registration has been added to the program.
