If you need to add teams in bulk or grab TeamIDs for other imports, the Import/Export Teams tool is the place to start. Most clubs use it for two main reasons:
Import: Add a set of teams quickly using a template.
Export: Download your team list so you can reference TeamIDs in other parts of Sprocket (for example, calendar event imports).

Where to find Import/Export Teams
In the left navigation, click Teams (sometimes called Teams Admin).
Select Manage Teams.
At the top of the page, click Teams Setup.
Click Import/Export Teams.
Export teams to get TeamIDs
Exporting is the simplest way to get a clean list of existing TeamIDs to use in other imports in Sprocket (like calendar event imports).
Go to Teams > Manage Teams > Teams Setup.
Click Import/Export Teams.
Choose Export to download your current team list.
In the exported file, you’ll see a TeamID column. That TeamID is what other imports use to connect data to the correct team.
Download the Team Import Template
If you are creating teams in bulk:
Go to Teams > Manage Teams > Teams Setup.
Click Import/Export Teams.
Select Team Import Template.
Fill out the Team Import Template
Each row in the template represents one team. Use the columns below to define team details.
Template column | Required? | What it controls |
TeamID | No | Not required for new teams. When exporting teams, Sprocket includes TeamID so you can reference it elsewhere (and it can also be used if you are updating existing teams). |
Name | Yes | The team’s name in Sprocket. |
RegistrationLabelOverride | No | Overrides the team name shown in the team invitation banner. Example: if the team name is “2012 Boys B Team,” the override could display “2012 Boys Team.” |
Inactive | No | If set to Yes, the team is placed into an inactive state. |
Level | No | The team’s level of play. |
PrimaryLeagueID | No | The team’s primary league of play. |
ShortName | No | If filled in, the short name is used as the team name in the mobile app |
Tips before you import
Do not rename the column headers. Sprocket uses them to map your file.
Name is required for every team row.
Double-check Inactive before uploading so you do not accidentally inactivate teams.
Best practice: create new teams year-over-year
If you are setting up teams for a new program year or season, the recommended approach is to create new teams, not rename last season’s teams.
This keeps your reporting, rosters, and historical records clean and avoids confusion when comparing past seasons.
A common pattern is to include the season or year in the team name (for example: “2012 Boys 2025/26”).
Import your file into Sprocket
Once your template is ready:
Return to Teams > Manage Teams > Teams Setup.
Click Import/Export Teams.
Upload your completed template to import.
After the import finishes, go back to Teams Setup to confirm your teams appear as expected.
If something doesn’t look right after import
Most import issues come from:
Missing a required Name
Column headers being changed
If you run into an import error, share the error text and your template file with support and we can help you troubleshoot quickly.
FAQs
Can I use TeamID when creating new teams?
TeamID is not required for new teams. It is primarily used when exporting teams or updating existing ones.
Why is my import failing?
Most import errors are caused by a missing required Name field or changed column headers in the template.
Should I rename last season’s teams instead of creating new ones?
We recommend creating new teams for a new season or year to keep reporting and historical records clean.
Where do I find TeamIDs for calendar event imports?
Export your teams from Teams > Manage Teams > Teams Setup > Import/Export Teams. The exported file will include a TeamID column.
